Biosystems Prealbumin Reagent
PRINCIPLE OF THE METHOD
Prealbumin, also known as transthyretin, in the sample precipitates in the presence of antihuman prealbumin antibodies. The light scattering of the antigen-antibody complexes is proportional to the prealbumin concentration and can be measured by turbidimetry1,2
COMPOSITION
A. Reagent 2 x 60 mL: Imidazole buffer 0.1 mol/L, goat anti-human PAB antibodies, sodium
azide 0.95 g/L, pH 7.5.
Biosystems Prealbumin Reagent
STORAGE
Store at 2-8ºC.
The Reagent is stable until the expiry date shown on the label when stored tightly closed and if contaminations are prevented during its use.
Indications of deterioration: Presence of particulate material, turbidity, absorbance of the blank
over 0.300 at 340 nm.
AUXILIARY REAGENT
− Protein Calibrators (BioSystems Cod. 31075). The set contains 5 different levels of prealbumin concentration and it should be used to prepare the calibration curve.
The calibrators are supplied ready to use.
Biosystems Prealbumin Reagent SAMPLES
Serum or plasma collected by standard procedures (use heparin or EDTA as anticoagulants).
Serum or plasma prealbumin is stable for 6 months at 2-8°C.3

REFERENCE VALUES
Serum, adults4
: 20 – 40 mg/dL = 0.20 – 0.40 g/L.
This range is given for orientation only; each laboratory should establish its own reference
range.
CALIBRATION
It is recommended to use a serum based calibrator (Protein Calibrator, cod. 31075).
A calibration is recommended at least every 2 months, after reagent lot change or as required by
quality control procedures.

These reagents may be used in several automatic analysers. Specific instructions for application
in many of them are available on request.

Biosystems Coagulation reagents include the main diagnostic tests and they are characterized by high stability and a good performance using low volume consumption.
These reagents can be performed in semiautomatic and automatic coagulation instruments, independently of the kind of clot detection method (optical and mechanic).
